NVL Laboratories is providing oversight, consulting, worker exposure monitoring, environmental monitoring, and lab analysis services for a large-scale PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) remediation project at the Old Rainier Brewery, the historic Seattle landmark which now houses office spaces and artists’ lofts.

Dangerously high levels of PCB’s were discovered, a toxic compound first synthesized in the 1880’s for industrial use and widely known today for its negative impact on human safety and also that of local marine and wildlife. Working closely with the EPA Region 10 and the Washington Department of Health, NVL’s expert consultants developed a site specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) to ensure no release of PCB-laden paint during removal activities. Total cost for the work performed was $148,000.
