Responsibilities:

  • Plans, manages and supervises the activities in the laboratory to ensure all staff, processes,
    and procedures meet or exceed company standards for quality, accuracy, safety and customer service
  • Tests new and improved laboratory methods and procedures
  • Prepares and maintains accurate, appropriate documents and records of all daily lab activities in a timely manner
  • Trains and/or supervises the training of all laboratory staff to ensure appropriate coverage in all lab functions
  • Evaluates quality control and quality assurance statistics and modifies SOP’s and manuals as needed
  • Maintains smooth flow of samples through the lab and that all reports are reported in timely manner
  • Maintains QC charts and statistics in compliance with accreditation requirements
  • Develops and manages a budget for the lab and effectively controls lab costs
  • Ensures that all safety procedures are followed and consults with Technical Director about safety issues
  • Responsible for planning workload schedules and distribution to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Maintains and monitors inventory of lab supplies including chemicals and standard stock solutions to ensure usage does not past expiration
  • Conducts scheduled performance evaluations
  • Performs all duties as assigned by the General Manager

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Science
  • Must have at least five years of lab experience
  • Documented experience in Metals and Organics analysis is preferred
  • Knowledge and ability to efficiently set up and operate laboratory instruments
  • Must have proven knowledge and skills in method validation
  • Ability to set up and oversee effective bench procedures
  • Must be skilled at reviewing and authenticating data
  • Excellent computer knowledge of software applications, including MS Office
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills and the ability to multi task
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • The functions of this position are performed primarily in an office and laboratory environment
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Requires visual acuity to read, to determine color, depth perception and field of vision
  • Dexterity to write, grasp objects and perform simple arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time, sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and walk without assistance
  • Ability to conduct repetitive motions using hands, wrists and fingers
  • Ability to talk and hear and communicate at a normal speaking levels
  • Ability to use fingers to pick up, pinch and type on a keyboard without assistance
